The Little Fans’ Workshops: Korea Comes to Arles This Autumn
This autumn and early winter 2026, Lee Ufan Arles invites children on an artistic and cultural journey to the heart of Korea.
Located in the beautiful Hôtel Vernon, in the heart of Arles’ historic centre, the art centre is offering a new series of creative workshops for children aged 5 to 8. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover Korean culture in a different way: by observing, imagining, drawing, cutting, and above all… creating!
Five Workshops to Discover Korean Culture
Throughout the programme, children are invited to explore different aspects of Korean culture through art and creativity.
A Quiet Afternoon: Wednesday, September 23
The first workshop takes inspiration from the photographic work of Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, whose images place great importance on spaces, settings and composition.
After observing the photographs and their many details, the children imagine what might lie beyond the frame. Through drawing and collage, they then create their own setting and continue the story suggested by the image.
A Journey to Seoul: Wednesday, October 7
Off to Seoul!
Through children’s books and games, participants discover the many faces of the Korean capital: traditional palaces, hanok houses, markets, the metro and skyscrapers.
They then get creative using the pop-up technique, combining folding, cutting and layering to create their own three-dimensional version of Seoul.
My Beautiful Mirror: Wednesday, November 11
This workshop is dedicated to hanji, traditional Korean paper.
Children discover this ancient paper, particularly appreciated for its delicacy and translucency, as well as its use in contemporary decorative arts.
Using ink, watercolour and pastel, they then create their own interpretation of a hanji-inspired mirror.
Floral Minhwa Vases: Wednesday, November 25
It’s time to discover minhwa, traditional Korean folk painting.
Children explore, in particular, representations of the plum blossom, a symbol of perseverance and resilience in Korean tradition.
They then create their own winter bouquet using Indian ink and watercolour, experimenting with transparency, shades and different textures.
Minhwa Animals: Wednesday, December 9
To round off the season, children meet some of the emblematic animals of minhwa: tigers, magpies and mythical creatures from Korean legends.
Often expressive, colourful and sometimes even amusing, these animals become a source of inspiration for creating an original bestiary.
Each child imagines their own animal before contributing to the creation of a large collaborative poster.
